Kassianos, imperial spatharios, 7th century. Seal (Lead, 21 mm, 9.64 g, 12 h). Cruciform monogram KACCIANOV. Rev. BAC/ΛIK' C/ΠAΘA/P, in four lines. Unpublished in the standard references. Good very fine.

The name Kassianos is derived from the ancient Roman family of the Cassii. It was popular in the Byzantine Empire, as many saints and martyrs bore this name.
